On Restaurants | Bake Me Happy offers gluten-free goodies

The Merion Village neighborhood now has its own bakery serving exclusively gluten-free baked goods. Bake Me Happy opened at 116 E. Moler St. on Sept. 20.

It’s owned by Wendy Miller Pugh and her partner, Letha Pugh.

Wendy Miller Pugh began baking without gluten about eight years ago, when she discovered that she was gluten-intolerant.

“It started really out of necessity. I couldn’t eat gluten, so I started baking for myself and for my friends,” she said.

She said she wasn’t too crazy about the options that existed at the time: flavorless versions of the treats she craved.

“I decided to make fun things, like gluten-free Twinkies, and I got pretty darn good at it,” Pugh said. “My friends said they tasted awesome.”

Soon, word got around about Pugh’s gluten-free goodies, and requests began pouring in.
